Mathematics in Narratives of Geodetic Expeditions

As part of the Measuring the Earth project the Art of Judgment research cluster is glad to announce its new discussion group, which will explore new ways to frame the history of geodesy and, in general, representations of the globe and the geosphere in an interdisciplinary perspective.

To start the discussion we will discuss Mary Terrall, “Mathematics in Narratives of Geodetic Expeditions,” Isis 97, no. 4 (December 1, 2006): 683–99, https://doi.org/10.1086/509950. You can download the paper here.

Further dates are planned for June 11 and June 25, 2020. Readings and discussion themes will be selected jointly.
